Crocus Sativus, the Latin name for saffron, is a rich source of carotenoids, excellent antioxidants because of the content of crocin that also makes it red and gives it its smell of iodine. It also contains vitamins B1 and B2, essential for growth and for the metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. It is also known for its beneficial properties: it aids digestion and is used as a painkiller for the treatment of period pains. |
